Ministry Scorecard: Check the Vitals of Your Ministry Every Meeting
By Peter Wolfgramm, GIA Director of Operations
A ministry can be busy week-to-week and month-to-month and still struggle to know whether it is moving in the right direction. Leaders are preaching, teaching, caring for people, and completing numerous tasks, yet important priorities can still fall through the cracks.
Are you struggling to find an efficient and effective way to track key data points in your ministry?
Without clear measurements, your ministry meetings can become a discussion of problems rather than a catalyst for action. This is why a ministry scorecard is an essential part of every meeting.
Think of the scorecard like the vital signs a doctor checks during a physical. Blood pressure, heart rate, and temperature don't tell the doctor everything about a person's health, but they provide a quick picture of what is happening and identify areas that may need attention. The ministry scorecard serves the same purpose. It gives leaders a regular "checkup" on the health of the ministry.
An effective ministry scorecard should measure leadership effort more than ministry results. Although leaders cannot necessarily control attendance, confirmations, baptisms, offerings, or other signs of numerical growth, these types of metrics can be an indication of the overall health of a ministry. However, leaders can control whether they make follow-up calls, meet with families, recruit volunteers, make evangelism visits, or complete their weekly priorities. God will bless ministries with results according to His will and timeline.
The real value of the ministry scorecard comes when the team reviews it during their meetings. When something is off track, the team can ask why, identify the issue, and create specific action steps.
Grace in Action can assist your ministry leaders develop a scorecard that measures the metrics your group has deemed important to track. We can help integrate the scorecard into an efficient and productive meeting style called “The Level 10 Meeting.” Please contact Peter Wolfgramm for a free 30-minute conversation.
